Bernard has somewhat foolhardily invited his mistress, Brigit, to his home on her birthday, despite the presence of his unsuspecting wife, Jacqueline. To keep Jacqueline off his scent he has also invited his oldest friend, Robert, and asks him to pretend that Brigit is his own mistress. With Robert’s refusal, and the arrival of a temporary maid, also called Brigit, the scene is set for an evening of frantic complications, plots and counterplots. In the best tradition of farce, identities and bedrooms are changed round with ever-increasing confusion, until an unexpected ending leaves everybody happy. |
